QR Code on Your Hard Hat: How On-Site Verification Works

Job site orientation used to mean a stack of photocopies. Dig through your truck for your H2S card. Wait while someone calls your last employer. Hope the safety coordinator has a working fax machine.

With Meritus, it takes two seconds.

How on-site verification works:

  1. 1.Get your QR code. Once you have at least one attested credential on Meritus, your QR code is automatically generated. Download it from your Profile page as PNG or SVG.
  2. 2.Put it on your gear. Print a weatherproof sticker for your hard hat, vest, or ID badge. Many workers get it laminated or use vinyl decals.
  3. 3.Anyone scans it. A supervisor, safety coordinator, or site manager points their phone camera at your QR code. No app required — it opens directly in the browser.
  4. 4.Instant verification. They see your full credential profile: every attested certification, the oath status, expiry dates, and your serial number (MER-XXXX-XXXX format).

What they see on scan:

  • Your name and trade
  • Every attested credential with status (Active, Expired, Disputed)
  • Expiry dates and days remaining
  • Your oath timestamp for each entry
  • Your endorsements from coworkers and supervisors

What they don't see:

  • Your personal contact info (unless you choose to share it)
  • Your uploaded documents (those are encrypted and private to you)
  • Any credentials you've marked as hidden

It works offline too — the QR code encodes your serial number, so even if the scanner's phone has spotty reception, they can look you up later by typing in your MER number at getmeritus.org/employer/verify.

No paperwork. No phone calls. No fax machines. Just scan and verify.
